7 rue Princesse Studio
Today I would like to share with you one of my favorite address in Paris, Saint Germain des Près, when it comes to well-being. Leaving the animated Princess Street, you enter a charming XVIIth century building to go into the studio where a bright, green and relaxing view on the gardens awaits for you. Here, Vassila teaches her very own technique and floor-barre philosophy: a mix of classical barre (Arlen and Kniasseff methods), Astanga Yoga, Iyengar, Pilates etc. Your breath becomes more qualitative and you get carried away by the inspiring and eclectic music playing in the background.
I love Vassila’s teaching method, the anatomical lessons, her way of correcting, explaining and guiding you through every move. Everything revolves around the mobility of the spine and on muscular building on a well aligned skeleton. As soon as I walk through the studio’s door, I get “aligned” in my body and I get calm in my head.
Each class starts with a couple of exercises focusing on spine and pelvis alignment, usually followed by lively moves (back/ arms/ abs/ glutes), stretching exercises and core work. Vassila caters each session to meet the needs of the students, thus making it unique. Classes end on “dosseret” suspensions (the “dosseret” is an equipment used to improve the mobility of the spine). This technique tones up the body while enhancing core strength and preventing any back pain.
After a 1h30 sessions, you feel taller, you breathe better, you understand your body and most of all you feel like you left your worries in the locker room. The students attending the small and intimate classes are chosen for their motivation and diligence so you are in good company!
